Former St. Louis Cardinals pitcher and baseball commentator Al Hrabosky was the guest speaker at the Union Area Chamber of Commerce Evening of Excellence award banquet.
Chamber Executive Director Melissa Vogt said the Chamber sought Hrabosky due to the success in past years with those associated with the Cardinals.
“Traditionally we have had speakers from the Cardinals organization and they draw a good crowd,” she said. “This area is very much into baseball, and it is always good to hear the baseball stories and comments.”
Hrabosky, known as the “Mad Hungarian,” played from 1970–1982 for the St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City Royals and Atlanta Braves and is now a color commentator on Cardinals regular season broadcasts on Fox Sports Midwest.
“He will have interesting stories from his baseball and broadcasting careers,” Vogt added. “He identifies with St. Louis and has been here for ages.
“He can provide good insight from player and broadcaster perspectives,” she added.
Cardinals Manager Mike Methany and broadcaster John Rooney also have spoken at Chamber banquets.
Hrabosky played with the Cardinals from 1970–1977. He has provided color commentary for Cardinals games since 1985.
